PMC Sierra was originally founded in 1984 as Sierra Semiconductor in San Jose, California. The current president and CEO is Greg Lang, who has only had this title since May 2008. They are the leading provider of broadband communications and storage semiconductors for metro, access, fiber to the home, wireless infrastructure, storage, laser printers and customer premises equipment. They provide more than 250 different semiconductor devices that are sold to leading equipment manufacturers. In turn, they supply their equipment principally to communications network providers and enterprises. PMC-Sierra does not manufacture their own products however, they design and test their own products but outsource their wafer fabrication and assembly functions to third party suppliers. In 2010 their revenues were totaled to about $635 million dollars thanks to their 1,449 employees worldwide. PMC Sierra trades on the NASDAQ under “PMCS” which is the only place that their stock can be traded through a broker of your choice.
