Fairchild was founded in 1957. The company has its corporate headquarters in San Jose, California. Mark Thompson is the current Chairman, President, and CEO employing over 9,000 employees. From the beginning the company has had a great foundation for the manufacturing of integrated circuits and transistors. Fairchild is a global provider of semiconductor solutions that strives to be the best by making household products and industrial technologies more energy efficient. Their power analog, power discrete, and optoelectronics solutions products consist of isolated DC-DC, non-isolated DC-DC, MOSFET & IGBT gate drivers, transistors, and GFIs. Fairchild Semiconductor common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FCS”.
In 2001 Fairchild bought Intersil Corporation’s discrete power business division. Fairchild bought out the division because it wanted to expand in the metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor, commonly known as MOSFET, market. MOSFET transistors amplify electronic signals. They can also switch electronic signals. Currently, Fairchild is the second largest MOSFET manufacturer/ supplier in the world. Fairchild was bought out by National Semiconductor in 1987. In 1997 Fairchild was reconstituted.
