Altera provides high-density programmable logic devices and associated computer aided engineering logic development tools. They are the industry leader in making PLDs and CMOS. They also make FPGA’s, ASICs, CPLDs, and SoCs/processors. The FPGAs are designed at low cost and power, mid-range, and high end. With facilities in more than 4 different countries, Altera employs approximately 2,600 employees. They have over 13,000 customers around the world through a strategic and direct sales force and distributors. In 1988, Altera went public bringing them $38 million dollars in revenue for that calendar year. Altera consistently ranked among the top five public semiconductor companies in the categories of net profits and gross margins with margins reaching an impressive 60%.
